Paver patios & walkways

Paver patios & walkways

The outdoor room your house is missing. A well-built paver patio adds usable square footage, survives Minnesota winters, and holds up to decades of freeze-thaw cycles without cracking or crumbling.

Why it matters
Your backyard should actually be used
Most backyards in the Twin Cities are underused because there's nowhere comfortable to be. A paver patio fixes that. It becomes the place you have coffee in the morning, the place your kids play, the place guests end up at the end of every dinner party. The best outdoor investments are the ones you use every single day.
Honest guide
What it costs & what makes it last
Paver patios and walkways with Heritage Outdoors start at $35 per square foot installed and can range into the $50+ range depending on paver brand, pattern complexity, and base preparation. We work closely with RCP (Rochester Concrete Products) — a Minnesota manufacturer whose Tahoe and Reno lines are excellent at their price point. We also install Unilock, Belgard and others where the budget and aesthetic call for it. No big box brands. No shortcuts on base depth.

$5,000 project minimum.
Who needs this
No outdoor space, slab that's cracked, or yard that slopes away
If you have a back door that opens onto grass or a crumbling concrete slab, a paver patio is the single highest-return hardscape investment you can make. Pavers flex with Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycle — concrete doesn't. A single cracked slab can't be partially replaced. Individual pavers can. That's not a small difference over 20 years.
"I can't stop staring out my living room windows to admire our backyard. By far the best landscaping company we've worked with — punctual, professional, and meticulous. The transformation was stunning."

Paver driveways

Paver driveways

The first thing anyone sees. A paver driveway makes a statement that asphalt and concrete simply can't — and holds up to Minnesota winters better than either of them.

Why it matters
Curb appeal starts at the street
Asphalt needs resealing every few years and cracks. Concrete cracks and can't be partially replaced. Pavers flex with freeze-thaw cycles, individual units can be replaced if needed, and they look exceptional for decades with minimal maintenance. For high-end new construction or a home you plan to stay in, a paver driveway is the only option worth considering.
Honest guide
What it costs & what makes it last
Paver driveways run $35–$50+ per square foot installed — similar to patios, but the base requirement is heavier. Driveways need 8–12 inches of compacted aggregate to handle vehicle load versus a patio's 6–8 inches. We install RCP, Unilock, Belgard and other manufacturers we can stand behind. No big box brands, no shortcuts on base depth.

$5,000 project minimum — driveways typically well exceed this threshold.
Who needs this
New construction, crumbling concrete, or a home that deserves better
Paver driveways make the most sense on new construction, on homes with existing concrete that's cracking or heaving, or on properties where the exterior deserves a cohesive, high-end look from the street. They're an investment — but one that pays back in curb appeal, property value, and longevity.
"They proactively worked with the city to make sure everything was fully compliant — something we hadn't even asked them to do. This level of care and integrity built trust with us and speaks volumes to the type of people they are."

Boulder walls

Boulder walls

Our favorite thing to build. Natural stone placed with purpose — holds your grade, looks like it's always been there, and will outlast everything else on the property.

Why it matters
We prefer boulder walls 8 times out of 10
We buy boulders direct — which means natural stone is often more cost-competitive than people expect. But the real reason we push boulder walls is simpler: they're better. They age beautifully, require almost no maintenance, fit the Minnesota landscape, and carry a permanence that manufactured block never will. When the setting allows it, boulders win.
Honest guide
What it costs & what makes it last
Boulder walls are our most variable service — pricing typically runs $40–$100+ per square foot depending on stone type, site access, and how far the boulder has to travel. We source fieldstone boulders direct from Minnesota's boulder belt — locally quarried, minimal trucking, competitively priced. Limestone and specialty stone can add significant cost due to sourcing and long-haul trucking.

$5,000 project minimum.
Who needs this
Sloped yards, eroding hillsides, or any property that needs character
If your yard has a grade change of any kind — especially on wooded, rural, or lakeside properties — a boulder wall is almost always the right answer. On acreage or East Metro properties, nothing fits the landscape better. If you're not sure whether you need a boulder wall or block wall, we'll tell you honestly.
"From the very first call, Haven asked thoughtful questions — not just about budget and vision, but about what we actually wanted from the yard and how it would fit our lifestyle. The only regret I have is that we didn't just start with Heritage."

Retaining walls

Retaining walls

When you need structure, precision, and engineered holding power — block retaining walls are built for the job. Done right, they hold for decades. Done wrong, they fail in five years.

Why it matters
A failing wall gets worse fast
A retaining wall that's starting to lean or bow isn't a cosmetic problem — it's a structural one. Once the base is compromised, failure accelerates. The longer you wait, the more excavation, drainage correction, and material is required to fix it. Early diagnosis and proper installation saves significant money over a wall that gets patched and fails again.
Honest guide
What it costs & what makes it last
Block retaining walls typically run $55–$70 per square foot installed with standard manufactured block like Versa-Lok. Premium wall block products can push that higher — labor stays the same and it's purely material driving the difference.

One thing we always disclose upfront: depending on wall height and load above the wall, a licensed structural engineer may be required. If you coordinate through Heritage Outdoors, engineering typically runs $1,500–$2,000 paid directly to the engineer. Independent engineering runs around $3,000. We bring this up on the first call. Most contractors don't.

$5,000 project minimum.
Who needs this
Failing wall, parking pad above a slope, or grade that needs taming
If you have a wall that's leaning, crumbling, or has had water issues behind it — it needs to come out and be rebuilt properly, not patched. Block walls are also the right call for taller applications, urban lots, and anywhere that needs a clean manufactured finish. For more natural settings, we'll often recommend boulders instead.
"If you are looking to hire a local mom and pop shop to do any outdoor projects, please give them a chance. The attention to detail you will get will be outstanding."

Steps & stoops

Steps & stoops

The last thing you see leaving and the first thing coming home. A well-built entry sets the tone for the whole property — and most homeowners walk past a crumbling stoop every day without realizing how much it matters.

Why it matters
First impressions are set before anyone knocks
The entry to your home is one of the most-used hardscape elements on any property — every single day. A crumbling concrete stoop or uneven steps drag down the whole exterior. A well-built stoop and steps pull everything together and look intentional from the street.
Honest guide
What it costs & what to think about
Natural stone and wet cast steps typically run $250–$500 per step installed depending on material, size, and site conditions. Stoops are priced by project based on landing size, steps, and materials — most residential front entry replacements fall in the $5,000–$12,000 range. Stoop bodies are built from manufactured retaining wall block for structural integrity, with paver caps and landings on the surfaces you see and walk on.

$5,000 project minimum.
Who needs this
Crumbling concrete stoop, heaving steps, or a front entry that needs a reset
Poured concrete stoops fail in Minnesota because they're rarely built with proper footings. They heave every winter. A block stoop with proper base holds its position through freeze-thaw indefinitely. Natural stone steps are ideal for grade changes on wooded or rural properties where a manufactured material would look out of place.

Landscape & outdoor living

Landscape & outdoor living

The finishing layer. Hardscape creates the structure — landscape design fills it in and makes the whole property feel intentional.

Why it matters
Hardscape without landscape feels unfinished
A paver patio surrounded by bare dirt or overgrown beds undersells the whole project. Landscape design ties the hardscape to the home and the home to the yard. Haven designs and sources plantings, garden beds, dry creek beds, and outcroppings that make the whole property feel like it was planned from the start — because it was.
Honest guide
What we offer & how it works
Landscape design-build projects typically start with a design deposit for more complex or multi-service work — Haven develops the full plan, which applies toward the project if you move forward and stays with you if you don't. We offer garden bed installation, dry creek beds, natural stone outcroppings, edging, and sod installation including large-scale regrading.

$5,000 project minimum.
Who needs this
New patio that needs finishing, overgrown beds, or a full yard reset
Landscape work pairs naturally with hardscape installs — we often combine patio and landscape into a single project for efficiency and cohesion. If your yard needs a full reset, from regrade to sod to planting beds, we can handle the whole thing start to finish.
"Heritage Outdoors replaced my crumbling, waterlogged retaining wall with a beautiful boulder wall. The work was done quickly and Jacob and his crew were very diligent. Haven was a terrific project manager — highly communicative, reliable and fun to talk to."
