Landscape Design & Outdoor Living
Twin Cities & Surrounding Metro
The backyard you've been putting off.
Let's actually build it.
Most landscape companies don't do hardscape. Most hardscape companies don't do plantings or sod. Heritage Outdoors does both — designed together by Haven, installed together by Jacob. That means your patio, retaining wall, garden beds, firepit, and sod are one cohesive project, not a patchwork of contractors who never talked to each other.
Haven handles every design consultation and estimate personally. She listens to how you actually use your outdoor space, what's not working about the current yard, and what you want it to feel like when it's done. The design comes from that conversation — not from a template. Every project is different because every yard and every family is different.
We build full backyard transformations, install sod and correct grading, design and install garden beds, build firepits and outdoor living areas, and integrate all of it with whatever hardscape the yard needs. If your yard has been on your to-do list for more than one summer, that's the sign to call.

Design and installation
under one roof
Most homeowners have experienced the gap between what a landscape designer draws and what a contractor actually builds. Haven eliminates that gap because she's both. She designs projects knowing exactly what Jacob can build, what it costs, and what will look right in five years — not just on paper.
The design conversation is free on most projects. Haven comes out, walks the yard, listens to what you want, and tells you honestly what's realistic at your budget. The estimate you get reflects the actual project — not a number that changes after you've already committed.
Jill Asfoor put it simply after her sod installation: "I'm so happy with the installation, price, look and health of the sod installed. I highly recommend hiring Heritage Outdoors LLC." Mary Sexton received a full front yard renovation — grading, sod, and flower beds — and called it "excellent service and beautiful results. And affordable."

Landscape questions
we hear all the time
What landscape services does Heritage Outdoors offer?
Heritage Outdoors offers full-service landscape design and installation across the Twin Cities metro. Services include full backyard transformations, lawn grading and drainage correction, sod installation, garden bed design and installation, firepit and outdoor living areas, dry creek beds, pollinator gardens, and hardscape integration. Most projects combine multiple services — a patio, garden beds, sod, and a firepit designed and installed together as a cohesive outdoor space.
Does Heritage Outdoors do design as well as installation?
Yes — Haven handles all design, consultations, and estimates. Heritage Outdoors is a design-build company, meaning Haven designs the project and Jacob installs it. This keeps the design grounded in what's actually buildable at your budget, and eliminates the gap between what a designer draws and what a contractor delivers. A design deposit may apply on complex or multi-service projects.
How much does landscape installation cost in Minnesota?
Landscape project costs vary widely depending on scope. Sod installation typically runs $1–$2 per square foot installed depending on yard size, access, and grading required. Full backyard transformations combining hardscape and landscape work vary significantly by project. Heritage Outdoors has a $5,000 project minimum. Haven provides free on-site consultations and detailed estimates before any work begins.
What is the best time to install sod in Minnesota?
The best times to install sod in Minnesota are late spring (May–June) and early fall (August–September). Both seasons offer cooler temperatures and more consistent moisture that help sod establish quickly. Summer installs are possible but require more aggressive watering. Heritage Outdoors installs sod throughout the season and advises on watering schedules based on when your sod goes in.
Can Heritage Outdoors combine landscape and hardscape on the same project?
Yes — and this is Heritage Outdoors' core strength. Most landscape companies subcontract or avoid hardscape. Most hardscape companies don't do plantings or sod. Heritage Outdoors designs and builds both in-house, which means your patio, retaining wall, garden beds, and sod are designed as a single cohesive project — not pieced together from multiple contractors.
Does Heritage Outdoors do drainage correction?
Yes. Grading and drainage correction is one of the most common reasons homeowners call Heritage Outdoors — water pooling near the foundation, low spots that stay wet after rain, yards that drain toward the house. Heritage Outdoors assesses drainage during the free site visit and incorporates proper grade into every landscape and hardscape installation.
