Connects new garage to existing paver patio
Project overview

A new garage deserved a proper connection to the rest of the yard.

Karen had recently had a new garage built at her Mac-Groveland home — a major upgrade, but one that left an unfinished gap. The new structure had no walkway connecting it to the house or the existing patio. Bare ground, no clear path, and a backyard that felt incomplete.

Karen already had an existing paver patio and knew exactly what she wanted — more of the same. Pavers made sense: she'd already seen how they perform through Minnesota winters, she liked the look, and connecting the new garage with matching material would tie the whole backyard together into one cohesive hardscape.

Willow Creek Brickstone in RoseCreek blend, laid in a running bond pattern. The warm brick-reds and charcoals of RoseCreek complement the yellow stucco and green trim of the garage perfectly. The walkway runs the full length of the structure and connects directly into the existing patio — one continuous surface, no mismatched materials, no awkward transitions.

What this project required

Straightforward job. Done exactly right.

01
Post-construction bare ground
New garage construction always leaves disturbed soil alongside the structure. Before any base could go in, the area needed to be excavated to proper depth, graded flat, and compacted. Skip that step and the surface moves. Heritage doesn't skip that step.
02
Matching the existing patio
Karen already had pavers — which meant the new walkway had to connect seamlessly to what was already there. Same material, same pattern, same elevation. Where the walkway meets the existing patio, it reads as one continuous surface rather than an add-on.
03
A homeowner who already knew the value
Karen had lived with a paver patio long enough to know what she was getting. No hesitation on material, no second-guessing the investment — just a clear ask to extend what already worked. That kind of homeowner makes for a clean, efficient project.
"My daughter came out to supervise this one. She's very particular about base compaction. We passed her inspection."

During

Excavation, base prep, and pavers going in.

Toro Dingo handling the excavation along the garage, dirt and base material piled and staged, then hand-grading and compaction before the Brickstone goes down. The existing patio edge visible at the connection point — the new walkway will tie directly into it.

The result

Garage to patio. One continuous surface.

Willow Creek Brickstone RoseCreek in running bond — the warm brick-reds and charcoals against the yellow stucco and green garage trim is one of those combinations that just works. The walkway connects seamlessly to the existing patio at the far end, completing a backyard hardscape that now flows from the house all the way to the garage.

Willow Creek Brickstone
Classic brick look, paver performance
Brickstone's rectangular format and clean edges give it a traditional brick appearance — but with all the performance advantages of a concrete paver. Freeze-thaw stable, easy to shovel, and individual units can be replaced if ever needed. Running bond keeps the layout clean and timeless.
RoseCreek blend
Saint Paul's most-installed color
RoseCreek — warm brick-reds and charcoals — is the most popular Willow Creek color Heritage Outdoors has installed in Saint Paul. Against yellow stucco and green trim, it's a classic combination that reads as grounded and intentional rather than bold.
Seamless connection
New walkway meets existing patio
The walkway connects directly into Karen's existing paver patio — same material, same pattern, same elevation. The transition is invisible. What looked like an incomplete backyard now reads as a single, well-planned hardscape from the house all the way to the garage.

What is Willow Creek Brickstone?

Willow Creek Brickstone is a concrete paver with a classic rectangular brick format. Unlike tumbled cobble pavers, Brickstone has clean, defined edges and a smooth face — giving it a more traditional, formal look. Laid in a running bond pattern, it reads like classic brick without the maintenance or the cost of natural clay brick.

What is the Willow Creek RoseCreek color blend?

RoseCreek is Willow Creek's most popular color blend — warm brick-reds and charcoal tones that complement the stucco, painted siding, and natural stone common in Saint Paul's older neighborhoods. It's the most popular color Heritage Outdoors has personally installed in Saint Paul.

Can a paver walkway connect to an existing paver patio?

Yes — as long as the existing patio uses the same or a compatible paver product, a new walkway can be seamlessly tied in. In Karen's project, the new Willow Creek Brickstone walkway connects directly to her existing patio using the same material and running bond pattern, creating a continuous, cohesive hardscape layout.
