Willow Creek RoseCreek patio & landscape design
Hamline-Midway, Saint Paul MN
A vision that needed someone to pull it together
Melissa came to Heritage Outdoors with clear goals but needed help translating them into a cohesive design. She wanted to reduce lawn without eliminating it, support pollinators without creating high-maintenance gardens, and have a comfortable spot to sit and enjoy it all. Three goals. One design that delivers on all of them.
Haven worked closely with Melissa to build a landscape that fits her lifestyle — not just her aesthetic. The result is a yard that supports the environment, stays manageable, and feels intentional from every angle. A paver patio to sit and take it all in. A dry creek bed that winds through pollinator-friendly plantings to a cozy flagstone bench. A fescue and clover lawn blend that stays green with minimal effort and feeds bees all summer.
No two Heritage Outdoors landscapes are the same. This one was designed specifically for how Melissa wants to live in her yard.
Same yard. Different world.
Drag the handle to reveal the transformation.
A yard full of potential. And overgrown ambition.
The existing backyard was densely overgrown — years of unchecked growth had created a tangle of vegetation with no defined spaces, no drainage plan, and nowhere comfortable to spend time. The bones of a beautiful yard were there. It just needed a vision and the hands to execute it.

Three goals. One cohesive design.
Melissa knew what she wanted but needed Haven to pull it into a plan that made sense as a whole. Every element in this yard serves at least one of her three goals — and most serve all three.
"Melissa had a vision — she just needed someone to pull it into a design that made sense as a whole. That's exactly what Haven does. Every element in this yard serves her goals. Nothing is there just to fill space."
Clearing years of growth. Starting fresh.
Demo, clearing, and grading — the necessary groundwork before any of the design could come to life.

Landscape design questions we hear often
What is Willow Creek RoseCreek paver color?
Willow Creek RoseCreek is a warm, earthy paver blend featuring rose, tan, and charcoal tones that complement the architectural character of older Saint Paul homes. Laid in a freestyle pattern with a matching RoseCreek soldier course border, it gives patios an organic, natural feel that fits neighborhood settings like Hamline-Midway beautifully.
What is a dry creek bed in a landscape design?
A dry creek bed is a decorative drainage feature that mimics the look of a natural stream using river rock, boulders, and native plants. It serves a dual purpose — managing stormwater runoff and directing it away from the home or lawn, while adding natural beauty and texture to the landscape. On this Hamline-Midway project, the dry creek bed winds through the garden and leads to a cozy flagstone bench area.
How do you design a low-maintenance pollinator garden in Minnesota?
A low-maintenance pollinator garden in Minnesota relies on native and adapted perennials that come back year after year without replanting, along with evergreens for structure and winter interest. Haven selects plants that support bees and butterflies through the growing season while requiring minimal deadheading, watering, or division. The key is choosing proven performers for Minnesota's climate rather than plants that struggle and demand constant attention.
What is a fescue and clover lawn blend?
A fescue and clover seed blend is a low-maintenance, pollinator-friendly alternative to a traditional Kentucky bluegrass lawn. Fine fescue grasses require less mowing and watering than conventional turf, and clover fixes nitrogen naturally — reducing or eliminating the need for fertilizer. The blend stays green through dry spells and provides a nectar source for bees throughout the summer.
